How Back-to-School Time Affects Your Dog

Back-to-School Frenzy? How The Dog Shop Can Help

As back-to-school time approaches here in Houston, dog daycare may not be at the top of your to-do list. However, you may want to consider adding it.

In a matter of weeks (or even days, for some) we’ll be packing lunch boxes, filling up backpacks, organizing homework, and preparing for new fall activities. The truth is, many families don’t realize that this annual transition period affects every single member of the family — including, yes, your dog.

Dogs are creatures of routine, and they know our schedules like no one else. They are aware that you’re about to leave even before you reach for your shoes or your keys. They understand when you are rushed or stressed. They notice when you get home early or late.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as we turn the calendar into the busy month of August:

  • Your dog’s daytime routine will change. During the summer months, many families adhere to a more relaxed daily schedule. Has your dog enjoyed countless trips to the lake this season? Plenty of fun in the backyard with the kids? During the fall, all that changes as families rush off to school and work and the family dog is often left home alone. To assure smooth sailing during this adjustment, we highly suggest doggy daycare to help your dog get the socialization and exercise he needs.

  • Consider changes to your nighttime routine as well. Whether your pack is rushing off to back-to-school night, a school football game, or any other activity, you may find that you need to leave your dog alone more often. Do you best to plan ahead for the truly busy nights. If you’re really in a pinch, dog boarding may be a smart idea.

  • School supplies aren’t just for kids. Back-to-school time is a good opportunity to take inventory of your dog’s supplies as well. Could he use a new collar, leash, or bed? Are you stocked up on dog food? Take care of these things in late summer and you’ll feel more organized in the busy months ahead. What can we say, it pays to do your homework!

If you would like to add to your dog to our doggy daycare roster, there are a few housekeeping items you may need to take care of, such as a vet checkup and daycare evaluation, so it’s best to contact us as early as possible.

In the meantime, we wish you and your family a relaxing end to summer and a successful transition to the new school year!

We offer pickup and delivery for daycare, boarding, grooming and training clients

With your ever-growing busy schedule we know how tricky transportation to and from The Dog Shop can get from time to time. Wouldn’t it be great to have the convenience of a trusted pet expert to pick-up or deliver your furry pal directly to and from your home? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered with our Dog Taxi Service.

Just like a traditional taxi, one of our dedicated and caring staff will come to your home and pick-up or deliver your pup right from your front door. Our dog taxi service provides simple flat rates, so you know exactly what it will cost to get your canine safely to The Dog Shop.

As an added convenience, clients do not need to be home during pick-up or drop-off, we only need access to a safe place for your dog that is out of the elements. This can be access to a sheltered outdoor kennel, garage or the home itself.

Routes vary daily as they are based on client needs for the day.
